Integration and awareness campaigns

E-mail Print PDF

campaa de sensibilizacin Since 1998 Apemsi has launched two dissemination and outreach campaigns. The first "We can all suffer from epilepsy. Let's talk about it". Created to raise public awareness that throughout our lives and because of different motives we can all suffer from this pathology.

Our association wants to be a leader and grow, to enable us to achieve this aim we have launched a second campaign: "Know about us", to disseminate our image, be leaders, show the quality and capacity we have to realise our aspirations and promote and disseminate the services we offer, as well as stating our achievements.

Integration Activities

Disability Day

da de la discapacidadThe 3rd December is Disability Day, Apemsi does different activities, simulations, protest marches etc. to remind and demand from public powers and society the need to adopt measures which ensure equal opportunities.

Peace Day

da de la pazThe professionals who work in training organise events, celebrations, activities and workshops for children with and without epilepsy and volunteers. The training encompasses integration, solidarity and respecting and valuing differences.

In the workshops the attendees do games, puzzles, stories, crafts, etc.

On the day visits are made to disabled and elderly people, they are given the crafts made and also provided with company.

Epilepsy Day

dia de la epilepsiaIn Spain there are 400,000 people with epilepsy. Each year 20,000 new cases are diagnosed.

On National Epilepsy Day (24th May) Apemsi does Awareness Campaigns in all of Spain: media communication, information points in all parts of Spain, talks, etc.

It is important that we inform correctly about the pathology of epilepsy to reduce social stigma and above all train the population on how to deal with a convulsive seizure or detect an absence seizure.

Our objective is that epilepsy is spoken about loudly and clearly.

Woman's Day

dia de la mujerWomen are considered to be the main stay of the family and they have a very important role in the association, not only as a wife but also a mother to a child who has epilepsy and a worker.

Apemsi provides activities and workshops to enable the woman to organise their day as a housewife and the carer of a son/daughter with epilepsy.

From this perspective we work with the woman to give her the time and space which is so deserved.
